Where is the Love?

It’s not about the price of eggs. If you thought it was, you’re either on the wrong side of history or not paying attention.

Trade wars. Threats of war with Panama, Greenland, Canada and Mexico. Invasion, occupation and ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Abandoning America’s leadership and commitment to global peace and Democracy by defending Putin instead of Zelenskyy.

Mass deportations of the immigrants who have sacrificed everything to build a better life.

A wrecking ball to the very institutions and agencies that keep us safe. The world safe.

America isn’t living up to it’s core values. If you’re alarmed by the direction the US is heading, you’re not alone.

Freedom. Liberty. Justice. Equity. Equality. Humanity. Words that used to define our shared values. Today, they feel like an America that exists only in our memories. When America was truly great

Like me, you may be asking yourself how we ended up here? Are Americans really this apathetic and lazy? We all watched in horror as trump incited a deadly insurrection. Who would vote for him? How was he even allowed to run in the first place? Why do politicians selectively defend the 2nd Amendment, but not the 14th? All of this was avoidable if they had the courage to convict during his first impeachment. Or his second.

America is fundamentally broken. Maybe one day, it will find its way out of the darkness. Or, maybe we’re watching it collapse in real-time. What if the people who voted for him, are the same people who’ve been saying “burn it down?”

Maybe this election is the “burn it down” phase of American History. I’m coming to the conclusion, that while I disagree with the method, trump didn’t actually win an election, as much as Millennials and Gen-Z, some of whom voted for the first time — disillusioned by a post 9/11 America — poured gasoline and lit the match by intentionally voting for him.
